Who Are Motability and Essex Mazda?

The Motability Scheme provides an affordable, worry-free way for people with disabilities to lease a car in exchange for their mobility allowance. The Scheme is operated by Motability Operations Ltd, under contract to Motability, a registered charity.

Am I Eligible for a Motability Car?

To be eligible to join the Motability Scheme, you need to receive one of the mobility allowances listed below and have at least 12 months’ award length remaining. The Attendance Allowance cannot be used to lease a car through the Motability Scheme. With Motability contract hire you don't necessarily need to drive yourself. You can nominate up to two drivers who may be friends or relatives, and parents or carers can apply on behalf of a child aged three years and upwards.

How the Motability Scheme Works

In the Motability Scheme, you simply exchange your mobility allowance for a car that suits your requirements.

Your allowance will go directly to Motability, in exchange for a car. Included with the car is a whole host of benefits, such as insurance, road tax / Vehicle Excise Duty (VED), and servicing, maintenance, and repair costs. Dependent on the model of vehicle you choose, some vehicles attract a small advance payment. However, at Essex Mazda we offer several models with no advance payment at all!

Once Motability accepts your application, the advance payment and weekly rental are price protected. This lasts for three months from the date your agreement is printed – provided that the car description on the agreement is not altered later.

Most drivers choose contract hire as they find it's the best option to obtain and pay for a brand-new car. They like the convenience of a single, regular payment that includes comprehensive insurance, maintenance and breakdown cover. They also get to choose a brand-new car every three years, once their contract hire lease agreement ends.

Benefits of Using the Motability Scheme

If you choose a car through the Motability Scheme, all of this is included:

You get a brand-new car every three years.
We will contact you a few months before your lease expires, and if you decide to continue with Motability, you can choose a car for your next three-year contract (provided you are still eligible)

Insurance.
The worry-free package provides similar cover to what you would expect under a fully comprehensive insurance policy. You can still lease a car even if you don't drive, you simply nominate up to two drivers who can drive on your behalf. And if you decide to leave Motability at a later stage, you can request a letter confirming your claims history to take to your new insurer.

Servicing and maintenance.
All of your regular servicing and maintenance is included.

Full breakdown assistance from the RAC.

Annual road tax/Vehicle Excise Duty (VED).
Supplied and sent directly to your home.

Replacement tyres.
For no extra cost our approved supplier will replace tyres worn or damaged by normal use.

Window and windscreen repair or replacement.
Repaired or replaced at no extra cost.
