The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is quite the automotive package. Not only does it possess contemporary good looks, it’s also a practical and spacious vehicle. However, probably its biggest selling point is its 100% electric drivetrain, which enables a range of up to 315 miles (72kWh models). Naturally, it produces no CO2 emissions whatsoever and it’s very affordable to run too.
Wide-opening rear doors afford easy access to an extremely roomy five-seat cabin, featuring an entirely flat floor which contributes towards a light and airy ambience. You’ll find plenty of useful stowage spaces dotted around the cabin, including an expansive cubby beneath the centre console, a large glove box and various cup-holders. Also, a 527-litre boot positively dwarfs the one found in the Volkswagen Golf – with rear seats folded, cargo capacity rises to an impressive 1,587 litres.
The vehicle’s 58kWh or 72kWh battery offers ultra-rapid charging capability when connected to a 350kW public charger – a 10% to 80% top-up in fewer than 20 minutes.
The car made its debut as recently as 2021, which means we only stock current models. Therefore, the IONIQ 5 rides on minimum-size 19-inch alloy wheels and comes with many other desirable features, including dual-zone climate control, a leather-clad steering wheel and a 12.3-inch touchscreen multimedia system. The latter provides access to a four-speaker stereo (or seven-speaker BOSE sound system with second-tier Ultimate trims).
Other standard-issue features include three USB ports, Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto / Apple CarPlay, wireless charging and satellite navigation.
Awarded a full-five-star test rating by Euro NCAP, the vehicle is of course packed with passive and active safety tech.
