JAECOO officially launches in the UK with the mid-size JAECOO 7 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUV powered by a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged, petrol engine and two electric motors to generate 197bhp and 290Nm of torque.
This bold and premium model will offer a driving experience that is capable in all terrains as well as refined, thanks in part to its intelligent 4WD, seven drive modes (including Off-Road, Sand, Eco, Normal, Sport, Snow, and Mud), 200mm of ground clearance and stylish design (such as the electric hidden door handles).
The spacious and comfortable cabin certainly feels luxurious with its aircraft-style gear shift handle, heated steering wheel, six-way adjustable electric driver’s seat with ‘welcome function’, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, 50W fast charging for smartphones, second-row air vents, and eight speakers. Even the boot has all you’d want with 412 litres of cargo space and a sensor-activated power tailgate.
According to the BBC’s Top Gear website, the JAECOO 7 will feature “an eclectic mix of off-road capabilities and AI technologies, cocooned within a rather attractive body” benefitting from “an ‘All-Terrain Driving Intelligence System’ and an ‘energy-absorbing structure’ in unison with a suite of active safety tech”.
Auto Express has said that the JAECOO 7 has a “large, imposing grille” with rectangular headlights and fog lights on either side. It also stated that “19-inch alloy wheels are standard”, “the darkened pillars give off a floating roof effect”, and “to the rear there’s a full-width lightbar” with crystal diamond array LED tail lamps.
They went on to say: “The interior is fairly minimalist, with most of the car’s functionality operated from the huge 14.8-inch screen along with a 10.25-inch driver’s display. JAECOO has created a new head-up display for the J7 and there’s 540-degree panoramic imaging to aid in tight parking. The J7 also features heated and ventilated seats plus a coolbox area under the central armrest. An electronic keyless bootlid, massive panoramic sunroof, frameless windows and myriad driver-assist systems help boost the J7’s premium appeal.”
Safety tech features a total of 10 airbags which maintain a six-second pressure when triggered to effectively prevent secondary injuries from accidents. Other systems include front collision warning, traffic congestion assistance, blind spot detection, emergency lane keeping, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and the MCB (Multi-Collision Brake) system that applies the brakes to prevent secondary collisions.
