Home Charging Solution for Motability Customers

Considering buying a plug-in hybrid or electric car on the Motability Scheme? Find out how you can get a free home charging station installed with the OLEV grant.

There are many benefits to switching to an electric car - whether you’re looking to lower your carbon footprint, save on running costs and tax, take advantage of local incentives, or just prefer the improved efficiency of a self-charging hybrid, plug-in hybrid or fully electric car.

As a disabled driver on the Motability Scheme, you can benefit from a free home charger when you upgrade to a plug-in hybrid with CO2 emissions below 50g/km or a 100% electric car. A home charger is much more cost effective and convenient, offering a faster and safer way to charge such cars at home compared to a 3-pin plug or public charging facilities. Enjoy everyday freedom in your new motor without any hassle!

Faster, Safer Home Charging With The OLEV Grant

The Government’s OLEV (Office for Low Emission Vehicles) grant, specifically named the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme, is available to those who purchase an ultra-low emission vehicle (ULEV). Click here to see a list of eligible vehicles.

ULEVs have electric motors which help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution on our roads. They are exempt from financial charges in clean air zones and low emission zones across the UK.

To have a home charger installed at your property, you will need to have off-street parking and have no previous claims with the Homecharge Scheme. The cost of supplying and fitting the charge point will be covered partly by the OLEV grant up to the value of £350 and the remaining costs will be covered by the Motability Scheme*.

If it is not possible to fit a home charge point at your property, you will still have access to public charging points across the UK, including some of our dealerships.

A great alternative to plug-in electric cars is the self-charging hybrid. Self-charging hybrids do not need to be plugged in to charge. Instead, the batteries are charged through regenerative braking while on the move. They are capable of travelling short distances in electric mode, which produces fewer emissions than petrol or diesel cars and can save you money on fuel costs.
